Programs & Initiatives

Sexual Assault Kit Initiative

The OPDA SAKI Unit implements a nationwide effort to submit and test previously unsubmitted sexual assault evidence kits. Working in close collaboration with NOPD, the unit reinvestigates cold-case sexual assaults and, where forensic and investigative evidence supports it, pursues criminal prosecution.

A Commitment to Survivors We recognize that significant time may have passed since an assault occurred, and revisiting past events can trigger difficult or overwhelming emotions. Every survivor’s recovery process, personal goals, and safety needs are unique. Your choices regarding participation in the criminal justice process will always be respected. Re-engaging with law enforcement or prosecutors is entirely your decision, and victim advocacy services remain available to you regardless of whether you choose to participate in a prosecution.
